LED Pin

“Das neuste Werk des koreanischen Designers Sungho Lee sieht auf den ersten Blick aus wie eine normale Wäscheklammer. Es handelt sich jedoch um eine praktische LED Lampe, die man problemlos überall festklemmen kann.”

LED Wall Interacting with Passers-by

Here’s a really cool installation done by Moment Factory in Montreal. The wall includes tracking devices and low-resolution LED displays and is capable of showing many different visualizations based on the presence and movement of people. The 35,000 LED bulb installation is now installed permanently at La Vitrine Culturelle and can be seen every evening from 7 to 11 (145, rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, Montréal)

LED Spray Paint

While there are more than a few exceptions to the rule, most graffiti is nothing more but lame, self-serving tagging. But combine simple signatures with LEDs and slow shutter photography, and the genre is born anew:

Halo is a concept by French designer Aissa Logerot. Shaped like a bottle of spray paint, the LED light can change colors on the fly and while it’s powered by an internal battery (that recharges with a simple shake of the can—a cutesy but awesome idea).

Audio-Light-Facade-Performance

Take one building in Austria (Ars Electronica museum in Linz) that has a facade containing 1085 LED controllable windows. Hack the system that controls the windows in real time through music broadcast through speakers surrounding the building. What do you get?

This. And it’s ace.

LED traffic light

33628 1 230 LED traffic light
This LED traffic light by Stanislav Katz is a true high-tech innovation for the masses. It will save energy and ease of construction through its design.

The cast, or mould, for the unit only requires a single set-up as each light section is identical, as opposed to the traditional triple light fabrication which is quite complex. The use of LED technology also is a step forward. Only green and red ‘bulbs’ are required; illuminating both colours in unison creates the yellow hue.

NYC to Install Super-Efficient LED Streetlamps

nycled lead01 NYC to Install Super Efficient LED Streetlamps

NYC will soon be installing a new breed of super-efficient LED street lamps. The new units will be tested this coming year in a select area, and if successful, one day all of New York’s 300,000 lights will be replaced with new LED versions.

The new LED lamps will use considerably less energy and will reduce the city’s power usage by 25-30 percent if all the streetlamps are switched out. As a result maintenance and energy costs will be considerably reduced, and the expected ROI on each lamp is 2-3 years.

On top of these great cost savings, the lamps will be more useful because of multiple light lenses within each lamp. Instead of shining directly below the lamp, each lamp will have at least 2 light sources pointed in different directions to illuminate the street, the sidewalk, and perhaps even the curb, a building, or a stairway.

New York’s current street lamps are not just for lighting however – they also serve as fixtures for traffic signals, signs, control boxes and other various city utility necessities. When these old lamps were originally installed, these extra things were never planned into the design and were always a pain to install. The new LED lamps and poles will accommodate all this extra stuff with carefully-considered spaces and connection points.
